CLEAR recognizes the classification of scoliosis as follows:
A doctor with a higher level of certification is suggested for more severe and progressive cases.
Standard-Certified doctors can be considered as an alternative for patients with mild to moderate scoliosis being told to watch and wait. They are trained to provide alternative treatment for non-progressive scoliosis - mild or moderate juvenile cases that have not shown signs of rapid progression, mild or moderate adolescent cases that are not at a high risk for progression, and non-surgical adult cases.
Intensive-Certified doctors can be considered as an alternative for patients who are candidates for traditional bracing or less severe surgical candidates. Intensive-Certified doctors have maintained a CLEAR Standard Certification for a minimum of one year. They are trained to condense typical treatment programs to accelerate the treatment process, called intensive care. They are also trained to work with more advanced cases such as progressive scoliosis, severe types of scoliosis, and patients with neuromuscular conditions.
CLEAR Fellows can be considered as an alternative for most types of infantile, juvenile, adolescent, and adult scoliosis from mild to severe. Fellows have maintained a CLEAR Intensive Certification for a minimum of five years. Their scoliosis training extends beyond CLEAR Certifications, and they are required to hold certifications in the following categories: technique, bracing, scoliosis exercise, diagnostics, and patient management. Their experience allows them to combine methods to enhance patient results. More severe surgical candidates should be managed by a Fellow or Senior Fellow.
CLEAR Senior Fellow requirements are twice those of the Fellowship Program. This prepares them to handle the most difficult cases of infantile, juvenile, adolescent, and adult scoliosis from mild to severe. Senior Fellows have achieved the highest level of recognition possible within CLEAR.
